John Calderazzo

I just retired after 30 years teaching nonfiction writing at Colorado State University, where I co-founded an interdisciplinary climate change discussion series, Changing Climates @ CSU. I now use my storytelling background to train scientists and scholars how to communicate with the public, the media and decision makers. I’m also writing about culture and glacial retreat. I’ve attended the high altitude Qoyllur Riti ritual near Cusco, Peru and will return in May to explore glaciers in the Cordillera Blanca.  My writing has appeared in Audubon, Orion, Best Travel Adventure Writing, Best American Nature Writing, etc. I’ve written about birds in China, Buddhist environmental activists in Thailand, mountains of Bhutan. My most recent book, Rising Fire, explores how volcanoes around the world have affected human culture.
