International Society for the Study of Religion, Nature and Culture (ISSRNC)

The International Society for the Study of Religion, Nature and Culture (ISSRNC) is a community of scholars engaged in critical inquiry into the relationships among human beings and their diverse cultures, environments, religious beliefs and practices.

The ISSRNC held its 10th Anniversary conference at the University of Florida in January of 2016. For an archive of live commentary at the conference, go to #ISSRNC2016 on Twitter, @ISSSRNC. Since its inaugural meeting at the University of Florida in April 2006, the society has held meetings around the world, including in Morelia, Mexico, in 2008, the University of Amsterdam in The Netherlands, in 2009, Perth, Australia in 2010, Vatican City, Rome, Italy in 2011, Malibu, California in 2012 and Cape Town, South Africa in 2014. Planning is underway for the ISSRNC’s April 2017 conference, “Mountains and Sacred Landscapes” co-sponsored with our host institution the India China Institute at The New School in New York City, American University’s Center for Latin American Studies and the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD). ISSRNC President Sarah M. Pike (2015-2018) welcomes proposals for additional co-sponsored meetings and ISSRNC co-sponsored panels at conferences with opportunities to present religion and the environment scholarship.
